Tagaytay Hotels

A popular vacation destination in the Philippines, Tagaytay offers tremendously dramatic scenery and a mild climate. Located only one and a half hours of driving south of Manila, the capital city of the Philippines, Tagaytay overlooks the Taal Lake and Volcano in the midst of the jungles of the southern half of Luzon Island. With its resort and hiking, Tagaytay is a real tropical wonder.

When you are in the town of Tagaytay, consider visiting the Mabini Shrine. This patriotic memorial contains the remains and belongings of the national hero Apolinario Mabini, once renown as the “Brains of the Katipunan.” The Katipunan was the group that began the resistance to the Spanish Colonial Administration in the 1890’s, and Mabini is known as the “Sublime Paralytic.” Unable to walk throughout his life, he urged his fellow Filipinos on to nationalistic ideas and pushed them to unite, using only the sheer power of his writings. He condemned Spanish atrocities with fiery articles in revolutionary papers. His tomb lies at the middle of the site where a replica of the house where he was born also stands.

For a look at the more modern trials and tribulations of tyranny, see the Palace In The Sky. This is a beautiful building is perfect for taking in the surrounding countryside near the Taal Volcano, and it was first intended as a presidential guest house for the former president Ferdinand Marcos, who ruled through martial law in the 70’s. Never officially completed, today the complex is open to the public. Located near the border of Tagaytay, the facility offers a spectacular 360° view of Taal Volcano.

Gardeners will love a visit to the The Flower Farm. Set alongside of a windy slope in Tagaytay, this farm keeps Manila abloom all year long. It is a huge place covering five hectares, and it produces tons of flowers every month, including roses, chrysanthemums, gerberas, anthuriums, and carnations, all in varying colors.
